A baby boy with eight toes on each foot was released last week from a hospital in Guangdong, China. The unfortunate newborn also
has five fingers on each hand with no thumbs. The doctors are speculating genetics or environment pollution as the culprit.
I used to live in Shanghai, which is super modern compared to Guangdong, and I can attest that the tap water was undrinkable and the air a choking hazard. Of course, with all the melamine recalls, could that be the cause? Whatever the reason, the mother is probably not to blame, but she should have had the good sense not to dress him in pink for a photo that's sent around the world.
